JazzJazz dance is a dynamic and ever changing dance form always open to snapping up new ideas and soaking up the latest cultural styles. It is a blend of two movements; folk dance of Africa, North and South America and Europe and the theatre dance developed from modern, ballet, and ethnic dance. Today Jazz dance is still in a state of growth and change as it continues to mirror modern-day society. It moves with our ever-changing society and eagerly incorporates new challenges in music, movement, and thought. Jazz dance customs will continue to flourish and expand as Jazz teachers, choreographers, students, and enthusiasts embrace this art form and pass it onto upcoming generations with enthusiasm. Jazz class will include warm-up, barre, stretching, isolations, and across the floor jumps, turns, and combinations.

*Dancers will require one costume that will be used for both routines with a few additions and changes of accessories for tap (ex. Skirt and tap bows).
Note from Miss Desiré:

These students are now ready for simple coordinated combinations of steps and movements. My focus again is to increase flexibility, technique and memory.

In Jazz class, students will begin to learn proper barre technique, traveling across the room steps and combinations to age appropriate music.

In Tap class, Pre Juniors will  be challenged with more difficult tap steps and movements. Tapping rhythms are set to all different eras of music and their feet become musical instruments!
Please note: These movements are a bit difficult to learn; therefore if your child feels frustrated in tap after the first month, this is normal. Practice and repetitions will make it easier for them.

Pre Juniors will learn a jazz/song & dance routine and tap routine that they will perform at Dance Explosion as well as Recital. Pre Juniors will also be given the opportunity to participate in another competition if  they are ready and there is enough interest by the group to attend.

This age is where dancers start to accomplish dance movements at a much greater speed. Everything seems to come together now and they are generally ready for greater challenges. Their required knowledge of Jazz and Tap positions and steps are increased at this level.

Jazz class is a high energy class where emphasis is placed on body conditioning, proper placement, strength and quick thinking on the student's part.  Students will learn proper barre technique, traveling across the room steps and combinations set to age appropriate music.

Tap class is a high energy class where students' feet become their musical instruments!  Tapping rhythms are set to all different eras of music from the classics, disco to todays' styles.  Students are taught to think quickly on their feet in the challenging ADAPT work we incorparte in their class.

This level will prepare the dancer for the Pre-Intermediate level where each dance form is taken in a separate class. Higher level Juniors may start
ADAPT exams at this time (See EXAMS). Juniors will learn a tap and jazz routine, which they will perform at one or two competitions as well as Recital.
